Join Jane for this 4-part webinar that is intended to bring psychic and somatic awareness to your current relationship with food. Through a depth psychology lens, we explore our unconscious psyche to gently shine a light on our complex and often, conflictual relationship with food. In this workshop, we use the body as a doorway into this vast unconscious realm. We explore the symbolism of food through a Jungian lens and bring somatic awareness to map our personal ‘food complex’ through spontaneous drawing and movement-based active imagination practices. We will also explore the tension of opposites between our conscious attitude towards food and our unconscious drives that lie beneath the surface of conscious awareness. We also explore how this psychic tension manifests somatically via the autonomic nervous system to incorporate a neurobiological lens into the somatic symbolism of food.

By linking the mythopoetic realm to the body, we will tap into a deeper and more compassionate understanding of what has been fueling intra-psychic conflicts with food keeping us ‘stuck’ in behaviours that willpower (that is, conscious control) can’t overpower. The goal? To open a potent doorway into the unconscious psyche that you continue to explore after the webinar is over. Suggested reading will be provided two weeks prior to the webinar.

WHY JANE FOR THIS WORK?

Jane offered weight-loss and lifestyle coaching for over 15 years wherein she discovered how futile willpower can be in changing our relationship with food. She also works with many clients in a psychoanalytic capacity (under supervision) who currently live with or have lived with long-term disordered eating. Jane also provided in-depth training to disordered eating disorder specialists.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Colourful drawing materials and paper

WHO THIS NOT FOR:

If you are living with disordered eating and are not in treatment
Practitioners looking for a ‘how to’ answer instead of focusing on a personal experiential approach
If you are looking at this webinar series as a weight-loss tool
You aren’t willing to follow up with therapeutic care if this webinar activates traumatic memories

DISCLAIMER:

This webinar is not a replacement for qualified mental health care and is intended for participants in an emotionally resourced place in their lives. If you are currently receiving mental health support, it is recommended you discuss this offering with your care provider to jointly determine how engaging in this program might impact your overall well-being. We will be exploring the unconscious psyche, which can be destabilizing for people in crisis or emotional overwhelm.
